My Energy Optimizer® Partner+ is a groundbreaking home energy storage program and SMUD’s first large-scale battery program. We’re partnering with customers in the Sacramento region to help achieve our 2030 Zero Carbon plan to eliminate greenhouse gasses from our power supply.
As a participant, you’ll be paid to connect your system operations to Swell Energy’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) control system, called “GridAmp™”. GridAmp™ alters the times your system charges and discharges energy from your Powerwall batteries over the duration of your enrollment. Rest assured, you'll still have the backup power you need if an outage occurs.

Security + Net Savings
Through My Energy Optimizer Partner+ you’ll receive both an enrollment incentive and a recurring incentive. Depending on when you enroll in the program, you will be paid a one-time enrollment incentive and a quarterly recurring incentive payment as shown below.

What is the My Energy Optimizer Partner+?
The My Energy Optimizer Partner+ program is a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) that reduces dependence on traditional fossil fuels and reduces demand on the electric grid by combining thousands of residential solar and energy storage systems. These new innovative power plants deliver increased energy resiliency to neighborhoods while compensating you for your participation.
When you enroll your solar + energy storage system, you'll make money by participating in grid resilience programs while protecting your home from power failures. This program is part of SMUD’s goal to meet our 2030 Zero Carbon plan. Learn more about our goal here.
What are the eligibility requirements to participate?
To be eligible, you must be a SMUD customer, have solar, and at least one Tesla Powerwall installed in your home by a Swell-approved installer (listed below). As part of the program, the SMUD account holder must allow Swell Energy to access and utilize battery storage technology on a limited basis during the program. MED rate customers are not eligible.

What happens during an outage?
Program operations will never impact your ability to back up your home in the case of an outage. During normal operations, your rooftop solar system will prioritize charging your battery from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. with any extra energy produced to serve your home's needs or export to the grid. The program will always retain at least 20% for your home’s backup power and will not be called upon during a utility power outage. During an outage your solar will recharge your battery as well as provide power directly to your home.
Can I enroll in the program if I don’t have solar?
Currently, only SMUD customers who have solar installed on their homes with a Tesla Powerwall battery can enroll in the program. If you do not have solar but would like to participate, Fill out the contact form and an energy expert will contact you to discuss your options.
